Preparation for Hospital Admission
THE DAY BEFORE ADMISSION
Make sure you are packed for the hospital stay.
Make sure that you have organised the post-op care.
BRING:
- Chronic medications
- Toiletries
- Pyjamas:
- Ladies: Nighties and Summer gown
- Man: Boxer shorts and T- shirt
- Slippers with a backing eg. Stokie slippers
- Loose fitting pants and clothes for discharge - the operated leg will be swollen
- Books to read etc
- Glasses as needed
- Cellphone and charger - including an adaptor
DO NOT BRING:
- Money
- Valuables
- Electronic equipment - unless you can safely store this
PRE-OP PREPARATION:
The night before surgery you will need to wash your hair and then wash your body with the Chlorhexidine wash. The Chlorhexidine body wash is done to minimise harmful skin bacteria. Rebecca in the rooms will supply you with 2 small bottles of the body wash.
The morning of surgery you will need to wash your body again with the Chlorhexidine wash.
Get a good nights rest because you will have to get up very early to ensure that you are at the hospital by 6 am for admission.
