Hip Revision Symptoms and Causes
Hip Revision Surgery is performed when a primary hip replacement has failed.
Symptoms of a Failed Hip Replacement:
- Worsening pain in the hip, thigh, or groin
- Persistent and worsening limp
- Joint stiffness
- Recurrent dislocations
- Swelling around the hip
Reasons for Revision Hip Replacements:
- Peri-prosthetic Hip Fracture:
- Fracture of the acetabulum
- Fracture of the femur
- Wear and Tear of the Original Prosthesis:
- Loose or damaged acetabular component
- Damaged liner in the acetabulum
- Loose femoral component
- Recurrent Dislocations of the Prosthesis:
- Joint instability
- Septic Hip Joint Replacement
- Metallosis Around the Prosthetic Joint
