Dr Steve Smith
Anaesthetist
Steve completed his undergraduate training at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1995. He did his internship at Baragwanath Hospital and then spent a year working as a trauma doctor in the Trauma Unit at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, followed by 6 months in the Paediatrics Unit.
During this time, Steve flew both fixed and rotary wing medical evacuations and worked on the road in an emergency care capacity. He was an instructor on Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) courses. Steve then joined the Department of Anaesthesia at Helen Joseph Hospital in 1998 and completed his Fellowship in June 2002, whereafter he took up a consultant post at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care.
Steve is a trustee of the Anaesthetic Foundation, which is a non-profit organisation which helps raise funds to further anaesthetic training in Gauteng.
His main role there is the collation and compilation of the academic programme for the yearly Anaesthetic Foundation Refresher Course.
Steve joined the Dunkeld Anaesthetic Practice in February 2004.
